Blacksmithing familiarises the maker with steel, it’s properties, it’s character and it’s possibilities to be moulded and shaped by the element of fire. Bladesmithing is to focus the intent and creativity into crafting blades and tools.

The course I offer provides an introduction to rudimentary blacksmithing methods, heat treatment, shaping, sharpening and touching on wood work as we make the handles.

The concept behind running these courses is to create a platform to introduce willing people to basic handcraft skills and design processes. In the long term the aim is to aid and propagate the culture of ‘handmade’ and ‘Rudimentalism’ to relieve the necessity of mass production and shift the perception of quality towards objects imbued with care and creativity. Consider this a window into ancient practice with contemporary application.

The knife design will is based upon an assessment of skill level. These Knives and tools will be formed from old tools such as spanners, drills, files etc.
